Bristan Bliss Shower Problems
If you’re the proud owner of a Bristan Joy or Bliss shower, you’re not alone. Many users have been enjoying the luxury of these modern showers, noting their reliability and efficiency. However, some have faced an intriguing issue that left them scratching their heads: an unexpected fluctuation of water temperature from hot to cold, seemingly without reason.
The Problem:
In specific scenarios, users have reported that their newly installed Bristan Bliss or Joy shower started to display unpredictable temperature oscillations, moving from a comfortable hot to a chilly cold, especially in bathrooms located on the top floor. One such instance involved a user with three fully functional showers on the lower levels but encountered issues only with the fourth one on the top floor.
Potential Causes and Solutions:
- Insufficient Water Supply Pressure: One of the primary reasons suggested was inadequate water supply pressure, particularly if the shower is gravity-fed. Connecting the shower directly to the mains might resolve this issue.
- Inconsistencies in Information: It’s crucial to ensure that the shower system’s details, such as whether it’s gravity-fed or connected to the mains, are communicated accurately. Any discrepancies can lead to misdiagnosis and unsuitable solutions.
- Shower’s Thermal Cut-out Device (TCD): One hypothesis was the activation of the shower’s TCD. If the water input is very cold and the shower is set to a high temperature, the TCD might activate, leading to a sudden drop in temperature. It is important to consult the shower’s manual to understand the temperature at which the thermal trip may cut off the heating element’s power.
- External Piping: If the showers are externally piped, swapping a malfunctioning shower with a functional one can help in identifying if the problem lies with the shower unit itself or the plumbing.
- Temperature Setting: It’s crucial to set the shower temperature within a safe range. A setting of 49-50°C is considered too high for showers. The recommended maximum is around 41°C. A high temperature can lead to safety features, like the overheat stat, cutting off the power to prevent potential burns.
- Dynamic Supply Pressure: It’s essential to measure the dynamic supply pressure, especially when other showers are in use. This can offer insights into whether pressure drops are causing the temperature fluctuations.
- Professional Evaluation: If all else fails, or if you’re unsure about tinkering with the system, consider seeking professional help. An experienced plumber or engineer can provide insights and solutions tailored to your specific situation.
In conclusion, while Bristan’s Bliss and Joy showers offer an exceptional experience, understanding potential issues and their remedies can ensure consistent, comfortable showers for years to come. Remember always to prioritize safety and consult with professionals when in doubt.
I have a “Joy” model, this is the second one, and I had it fitted in October 22, no problems until lately when the unit stopped and then restarted during a shower.
It then went “live” and my son got tingling sensations when he touched the hand set.
I had an electrician attend and check it all out, it was still live, he disconnected the wiring and rewired it again just to make sure, that seemed to solve the problem until yesterday when it stopped during a shower and restarted again. It did not go live this time but it is a major cause for alarm, the question is – could the fault lie in the on/off switch.
It also makes clicking noises during cold weather but I put that down to the temperature of the ground water coming into the house as it did the same last winter.
